Spring in the Southern Adirondacks

When spring rolls into Forestport, the landscape comes alive with fresh air, rushing streams, and blooming wildflowers. It’s a perfect time to hike the nearby Pixley Falls State Park trails, where melting snow creates dramatic waterfalls and scenic photo opportunities.

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Black River Wild Forest, a local favorite for hiking and birdwatching. Kayuta Lake begins to thaw, offering calm waters for early-season paddling. If you’re a fisherman, spring is prime time to cast a line in Kayuta Lake or right on our private pond at Camp Foothills.

As the Adirondacks awaken, so do the local farmers markets and craft fairs in nearby Remsen and Old Forge, where you can sample local honey, maple syrup, and artisan goods.

Summer Adventures in Forestport, NY

Summer in the Adirondacks is pure magic, and Camp Foothills puts you right in the center of it all. Guests love spending mornings kayaking or fishing on the private pond, followed by afternoons exploring Kayuta Lake, just a few minutes away.

The Old Forge area offers endless activities — from family fun at Enchanted Forest Water Safari to scenic chairlift rides and lakeside dining. Nearby Nicks Lake is perfect for swimming, picnicking, or a casual hike through shaded forest trails.

Fall Colors and Adirondack Beauty

Fall in the Adirondacks is really when nature shines. When the temperatures drop, Forestport and the southern Adirondacks transform into a canvas of red, orange, and gold. This is one of the best times of year to visit.

Take a scenic drive through Tug Hill Plateau, or hike Bald Mountain for panoramic views of the fall foliage in the Adirondacks. Kayuta Lake mirrors the autumn colors, creating stunning photo opportunities right on the water. Local towns like Old Forge and Remsen host harvest festivals, craft shows, and fall events that give you a true small-town Adirondack experience.

Back at Camp Foothills, you can enjoy the crisp mountain air, cozy up with a warm drink, and watch the reflection of the leaves dance across your private pond.

Winter Wonderland in the ADK

Winter in the Adirondacks is breathtaking — and Camp Foothills is the ideal base for cold-weather fun. The nearby Tug Hill Plateau is one of the snowiest regions in the Northeast, known for world-class snowmobiling trails that connect for hundreds of miles.

If you prefer a slower pace, try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the Black River Wild Forest or Pixley Falls State Park. After a day outdoors, come home to Camp Foothills, warm up by the propane stove, and enjoy a peaceful evening by the firepit under clear winter skies.

In less than 30 minutes, you can reach Old Forge’s McCauley Mountain, which offers skiing, tubing, and snowboarding—perfect for families or beginners.

What Our Guests Say

★★★★★

"Everyone in our party was comfortable at Camp Foothills, and we truly felt at home. We had everything we needed, and the welcome bag was such a nice touch when we arrived. Beautiful surroundings on the property that we loved exploring, and the kids enjoyed being outside as much as possible. My youngest loved the swings, my oldest loved listening to the birds and identifying them, and the adults loved being able to relax and make some new family memories. Thank you so much for opening your home and providing us with the perfect place to gather for the long weekend!"

"We booked this spot for a snowmobiling trip and it was perfect. The cabin is close to the trails, and the kids had a blast staying there. The property is about 30 minutes south of Old Forge, making it an easy commute. Some of us rode the sleds into town while others drove and met us there with no issues. Staying here gives you the best of both worlds—close enough to enjoy Old Forge, but far enough away to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The cabin also has plenty of space to park a trailer and unload easily, which made the trip even smoother. The host was easily accessible via phone and was extremely accommodating. Highly recommend trying this place out you will not be disappointed."

"This unassuming home will blow your mind! You walk into the enclosed porch where you can store your gear and coats, and then enter the great room with its vaulted ceiling with views right out to the amazing backyard. The kitchen is very well equipped for anything; the dining room table is open to the kitchen and surrounded by windows on the three other walls with views of the yard and water..Sleeping accommodations were quite comfortable with one of the bedrooms accessed via a spiral staircase complete with an ensuite. Very private! The outdoor string lights surrounding the firepit area creating an intimate atmosphere sure to please everyone. The hosts, Mike and Bridget, responded to our inquiries within minutes. When we had a hiccup with one of the door locks, Mike resolved the issue before we could reach him! Thank you Mike and Bridget for opening your home to others. It is truly a treasure. We had an amazing time!"
